Election Preview Guide
In Spring 2010 CVF will debut its nonpartisan voter guide for the June Primary election. In the meantime, below is an election preview, providing links to key resources that help the public and candidates track deadlines and activities leading up to the primary.
Published by the California Secretary of State, this calendar provides important dates and deadlines campaigns and candidates participating in the 2010 election season, along with state and local election officials must meet under state law.
The Secretary of State's Cal-Access campaign finance disclosure web site lists the names of people who have filed a statement of intention to run in 2010 for a statewide or legislative office. This resource can help the public keep track of who is likely to be a candidate for which state offices.
This resource from the Secetary of State's web site provides a summary of measures qualified for the 2010 ballot and initiatives in circulation, along with links to the official text of initiatives from the Attorney General's web site.
Ballot proposition numbers have been assigned and the following five measures have been qualified for the June ballot:
Proposition 13: Senate Constitutional Amendment 4 of 2008, authored by Senator Roy Ashburn (Property tax: new construction exclusion: seismic retrofitting)
Proposition 14: Senate Constitutional Amendment 4 of 2009, authored by Senator Abel Maldonado (Elections: open primaries)
Proposition 15: Assembly Bill 583 of 2008, authored by Senator Loni Hancock (Political Reform Act of 1974: California Fair Elections Act of 2008)
Proposition 16: Two-thirds vote requirement for local public electricity providers (Initiative constitutional amendment - more info | text)
Proposition 17: Allows auto insurance companies to base their prices in part on a driver's history of coverage (initiative statute - more info | text)
The Cal-Access campaign disclosure site features a listing of official 2010 ballot measure campaign committees that have been formed to support or oppose propositions on the ballot.
This resource from the Secretary of State's web site provides all the information would-be candidates seeking state or federal office in California need to know in order to get on the ballot.
